The Drop Shot

Christmas 2022 Edition

A little birdie told me that the club newsletter was once called The Drop Shot, so I decided to resurrect the name and hope to be able to issue a monthly Drop Shot to keep all our members updated on what’s going on in the club.

Captains Christmas Tournament

Our lovely new Captains for this year are Liz Hunter and Chris Kelly. They have organised a Christmas tournament for the 17th December. Entry to the tournament is limited to 24 players however afterwards (from about 5pm) everyone is welcome to join Liz & Chris in the Stewart Room where they will be serving Mulled Wine, Mince Pies and Shortbread. The bar will also be open for those of us who would prefer a proper alcoholic beverage!

Entry to the tournament is via Acebook however there is currently an IT issue and if this hasn’t been fixed by the time I go to press then please message our Head Coach, Johnny, to ask for your name to be added to the list of entries.

Captains Calendar of Tournaments

Long standing members will know that our captains try to host one internal club tournament each month. They are open to members of all abilities (watching some of us play that should be rephrased to no abilities) and are a great way to mix with other members. Unfortunately, as they are held on Saturday, day members are excluded. The committee are always on the scrounge for sponsors so if you feel like providing a winners prize and getting your photo taken for the website feel free to contact Liz Hunter or Chris Kelly. If you don’t know who they are, then you need to come to more social events!!!

That’s not all. This year, the captains plan on hosting a regular quiz night in the bar. More details will follow but keep your eye on the website and read your emails!!

Head Coaches Tournaments

Not to be out-done, Johnny will also be organising a few events this year. As well as the usual handicap tournament, the club championship and our new Adult Open tournament, Johnny will be arranging friendly matches with Hilden, David Lloyds & Boat Club. Johnny says friendly, but if we don’t win them its 50 laps round the dome! Think this would be the perfect time to try a few adult classes and brush up on our doubles skills. Take a look at our website or the club noticeboard for class times.

Juniors don’t rest on your laurels because Johnny has a packed schedule for you as well.

More details on all of these events will follow but there will be plenty going on in the club in 2023!
